He is coming off another dominating effort against the Chicago Cubs where he tossed 7 innings of shutout ball en path to securing his 6th win of the season. Over his L/3 starts, Danks has surrendered just 12 hits and four ER's while striking out 19 and walking 6 thru 21 total innings of work. Zach Greinke won his tenth game of the season his last time out against Pittsburgh where he tossed 6 1/3rd innings of two-run ball in the Royals 3-2 road victory. Since going through a rough patch that spanned four games from the end of May to mid June, the righty has been his dominant self going 2-0 while permitting just three earned runs with a K/BB proportion of 8/0 through 14.1 total innings of work. After shutting the White Sox out in each of his first 2 starts against Chicago this year, he got roughed up for four runs (three earned) and eight hits the third time around. He's dominated the White Sox line-up this season striking out 24 batters in the 22 innings he's thrown at them.
The no brainer here would be to blindly play the visitors due to the way they've been playing of late, but I believe the Royals are medium sized favourites for a reason. Instead, bank on both of tonight's starters to stay true to form and rule each team's offense. What the hell is wrong with the Kansas City Royals?
And when are they finally going to get their shit together?
Their organization is great at recognizing talent but awful at developing it. They seem to get off to good or mediocre starts, but lose motivation around this time of the year every year, no matter what personnel they have. The issue is probably in their minor league system, it's very hard to build a house on a crumbling foundation, even if it a foundation made out of quality material. Since nobody at the MLB level in that organization seems to be able to identify the real issues at hand, or be able to correc them, many of their potentially talented "stars" either rot away there, or go someplace else and develop.
I miss the glory days of the 1980's, when Royal Blue was intimidating to most of the league.
